At The Woodlands School  we know the importance of promoting the Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development of all our children and recognise our school has a responsibility to ensure that our curriculum and school experiences provide opportunities for all our children to develop these skills so that they can be the best version of themselves as they live and learn.Â
Our Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural provision weaves through both our curriculum and the wider learning opportunities our children experience in their school life. Â
Growing confident, compassionate young people, who are a CREDIT to our school — every day, in every lesson.Â
At The Woodlands School, we know that helping our children and young people to grow Spiritually, Morally, Socially and Culturally is just as important as teaching core subjects. As a special school for pupils with autism, we understand that these areas of development are essential in helping every learner make sense of the world around them and become the very best version of themselves—both now and in the future.Â
Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural learning, isn’t a separate subject or an occasional lesson.Â
It runs through everything we do.Â
Our staff support our young people to feel safe and secure; this aids their ability to learn. From the relationships we build with our children to the learning we plan for them through our Discover, Thrive and Aspire curriculums, our SMSC education is woven into daily school life and experiences, ensuring all pupils feel safe, understood, ready to learn and a sense of awe and wonder in the world around them. By getting to know each child’s lived experience and working closely with families, we create the foundations for genuine connection, trust and growth.Â
Alongside our curriculum, SMSC is also brought to life through assemblies, shared experiences, and real‑world opportunities. These moments help pupils explore who they are, how they relate to others, and how they take part in and understand the wider world around them.Â
Our School Values of Compassion, Respect, Empathy, Determination, Integrity and Trust are also embedded in our SMSC provision. Â
