TWS Enterprise

Developing Skills, Creativity and Employability

At The Woodlands School, we run an enriching Enterprise Programme under the name “TWS Enterprise”. We are now proud members of Young Enterprise team programme, which connects our students with a wider network of young entrepreneurs and supports the development of enterprise skills across the UK.

Our programme provides all students within our Sixth Form department the opportunity to take part in meaningful roles across our enterprise brand. Roles include:

  • Research
  • Planning
  • Designing
  • Production
  • Sales assistant
  • Accounting

These roles allow students to discover and develop their strengths, nurture their abilities, and gain vital employability skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, communication, creativity, resilience, and organisation. This practical experience aligns with Gatsby Benchmarks 4, 5 and 6, linking curriculum learning to real-world skills, encounters with employers, and workplace experiences.

Sustainable and Creative Projects

Some of our projects are made entirely from scrap materials, demonstrating creativity, sustainability, and responsible production. Materials include:

  • Round wooden discs from Marshalls Factory, removed from speaker frames
  • Paint donated by Scrap Store MK or purchased from recycled materials
  • Vinyl sourced from MK Vinyl or Scrap Store MK

Students design positive quotes for plaques, combining creativity with practical production and sales experience. This project helps students learn:

  • How to manage resources responsibly
  • Product design and branding
  • Customer engagement and marketing
  • Financial literacy through pricing and accounting

Why Enterprise Matters

Through TWS Enterprise, students:

  • Build confidence and resilience in a real-world environment
  • Develop entrepreneurial and employability skills
  • Learn to work collaboratively and take responsibility for outcomes
  • Experience the full business cycle from planning to sales
  • Contribute to sustainability and social responsibility

All profits from our enterprise activities are reinvested into developing the Enterprise Department and providing new equipment for the students to build upon their enterprise projects.

Get Involved

We welcome support from local businesses, parents, and community organisations to:

  • Offer mentoring or business guidance
  • Donate materials or resources
  • Attend enterprise fairs or events
  • Share expertise in design, production, sales, or marketing

By supporting TWS Enterprise, you help our students develop skills for life and work, experience the world of enterprise, and gain confidence in their abilities.
